Testimonials

Court Street Place has housed dozens of at-risk individuals since its formation. While many have gone on to achieve great things, locating them for interviews once they moved out is quite challenging! Please see below, where we have aggregated some testimonies from those who have been interviewed thus far.

“Okay, so I started using opiates when I was, let's see, probably around 23 or 24 somewhere in there and had, you know, been through rehab many times. I wound up moving out of the state that I was living in and started working as a counselor after undergoing a lot of training. I did that until about 2009, when I moved to New York. And let's see, things didn't go really well for me when I moved to New York…

I had some medical issues occur, and I was put back on some opiates, and I had a hard time getting off of them. So I went through the rehab thing a few more times until I got it, and then when I got out, let me backtrack a little bit before I went into inpatient treatment; I was homeless. My relationship with my kids and wife was not doing very well. So went into treatment, got out, and was still considered homeless. And that's when I was placed at Barry's house…

I lived there for probably a good two to three years, and in that time, I returned to school. It gave me a place where I could be safe and actually focus on school. I went through and got a degree in counseling, got another degree in bachelor's, degree in social work, and things kind of took off from there…

So one of the things I like about Court Street Place, is there was someone there, and they were there to help guide you through some stuff and help you get connected with some of the resources in the community. I think that a really big part of my success there was I connected with different resources through Mr. Segal and the employee that worked there.”
